FilmTastic - Saving your eyes and pockets from horrid movies...

Benjamin Button

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

I don't think i need to say much for you to already know that this is a good movie. Even watching the trailer gives you a tingle down the spine. No wonder this has been nominated for so many awards.

I must give praise to Brad Pitt for his spectacular acting and to all the people involved in producing this movie. Every scene was detailed and so well made, that there is nothing i would have done better. I like how effort was put into every stage of Benjamin's life. As he gets younger, new things happen, new stories unravel and new things are learnt. The movie didn't feel rushed or unfinished.

The only thing I can't help complaining about is Cate Blanchett. I've never liked watching her and the same goes for this movie. She reminds me of a doll and her acting feels so emotionless that it is the only thing that spoils the movie. Also, i would have liked to see the relationship between Pitt and Blanchett's character develop a bit more romantically. It was so sudden and there was no point in the movie that i actually wished they'd get together. Maybe, they should have remained best friends...

Almost 3 hours of staring at Brad Pitt getting younger was a bit tiring. At one stage i became restless and just wanted it to end. But, then again, i've never been a fan of dramas, so being able to sit through this was an achievement.

In my opinion this movie was a bit too boring, however, i can't deny that it is a good movie and really well made. So, if you enjoy dramas, i recommend you go check this out. This is one of those movies that you can't possibly miss, but for some, watching it once is enough.

Perhaps I would like this movie because I love watching Cate Blanchett in almost everything. The same goes for Brad Pitt. The story always sounded a bit odd to me but with the rave reviews it has had maybe it is worth me going out to see it.

I agree that this is a film worthy of its many award nominations, however I disagree with your assessment of Cate Blanchett.

I understand she's not appealling to everyone but she is still an excellent actress. I think she does look a little like a doll in physical appearance, but underneath her hardened exterior is a lot of warmth and generosity in her character portrayal.
I think Daisy is a difficult character to play because she seems emotionally detached, whereas Benjamin is always so forthright and trusting.

Anyway, I like how you've given a good short and sharp review for a very long film.

Cheers!

Thanks for the opinions guys,

Maybe i should go check out a few more Cate Blanchett movies. I only remember her in Elizabeth and Benjamin Button and both weren't characters that i enjoyed watching. Maybe it's just that i don't like dramas....keke
