FilmTastic - Saving your eyes and pockets from horrid movies...

How to lose friends and alienate people

December 10th 2008 06:54
I feel like i have wasted 110mins of my life watching this. I found this movie so boring and pointless. There were a few random funny and awkward moments, but apart from that, the movie lacked interest. There were a few times in the movie where i found my mind just wondering off.

The movie is based on Toby Young's memoir "How to lose friends and alienate people" and it is basically about the entertainment industry and journalism. The movie is pretty much a satire of the relations between magazine journalists and celebrities. Packed with nudity and sexual references, I think the movie had to result to this to wake up the audience from the dullness of the rest of it, which unfortunately did not work for me. For those expecting a chick flick filled with heart fluttering romantic moments, leave those expectations behind, as the relationship between Dunst and Peggs characters was a bit awkward and seemed to develop too quickly. The ending is quite weird and left me unsatisfied, i will not be rewatching this for sure.

I expected alot from this movie as it starred Simon Pegg and Kirsten Dunst. Simon Pegg was hilarious in Shaun of the dead, so i expected this to be equally funny, but unfortunately i found this dissapointing. The funny scenes weren't that funny, they were just awkward moments or situations that were sometimes overly exaggerated to the point that they were lame. Megan Fox did a good job in this, but only because the role of a hot starlet is almost effortless to her. I have never liked watching Kirsten Dunst, and the same goes for this movie.

I personally did not like this movie but i have seen good reviews from other people. My opinion is to only watch this if you have absolutely nothing better to do.
