FilmTastic - Saving your eyes and pockets from horrid movies...

The Unborn

February 28th 2009 15:00
Not even 10 minutes into the movie, i heard a couple in the back mumbling "is this meant to be a comedy or horror?". This one statement pretty much sums up this movie.

There was so much happening in this movie, every single scene involved some kind of shock factor or weird vision. I think this was too much, it felt messy, like a collage of random scary/gross ideas. This was meant to be a supernatural thriller, but there really wasn't much thrill or guessing needed to know what's happening. The scary/shocking scenes came so often, that after the first three scenes, i was already not getting surprised anymore, because it felt like every corner she turns or every mirror she looks at something would happen, and they did.

The only scene i enjoyed was the ending scene because it held my attention for awhile. But apart from that, the rest of the movie was just really messy and there wasn't enough build up to each scary revelation.

The movie attempted to create horrific/demonic creatures from dogs and humans. But with most Hollywood attempts at distorting human and animal bodies, the result is more humorous than scary.

Oh, and the script was bad too. Most movies contain a little bit of light humour, but "The Unborn" contained too much lame light humour, that it was hard to take the characters seriously.

Watch this if you really enjoy jumping at every "BANG" and screaming around every corner. But if you're after something a little more serious and well made, leave this one for when it's out on video.
