Twilight

I have yet to find a novel-based movie, that lives up to the standard of it's novel. After reading Twilight, I had visions of vampires, action, drama, romance. Expecting the movie to have potential, I anticipated this movie for a few months.
The thing that catches your attention right at the beginning, is the voice-over, which repeats the preface in the novel. This gets the movie started, but also, reminds me too much of the novel. Sometimes, lines in a novel may sound good, but when tranferred onscreen, it becomes cheesy. After watching the entire film, i felt like i had just finished watching a summary of the book.
Just like the pictures in a picture book, it merely felt like a form of guidance, a way to trigger your imagination rather than an engaging form of entertainment in itself. The movie felt like a bunch of important scenes in the book, placed together. It didn't seem to run smoothly, there wasn't enough gradual build up of emotions or suspense that distinguished it as a movie. There was simply so much more that they could have done. It reminded me of something that i could have filmed.
A good movie should set a standard, should amaze the viewers, take you on a journey, and leave you wanting more. The only thing i enjoyed was to see the baseball scene coming to life.
The script was cheesy and the fight scenes were badly choreographed. Maybe they should have taken some pointers from other vampire movies , Buffy , even.
Watch it if you are too lazy to read the novel, it gives you a rough idea of all the hype surrounding this story. However, if you have time, the novel is so much better than the movie, don't spoil it for yourself by watching the movie first. For those who have already read the novel, I know you will eventually watch this, but get ready to be disappointed. There is NOTHING in this movie that i would prefer over the novel. I'm even questioning whether to go watch "New moon", which is being filmed at the moment.
One last thing i need to rant about, "Edward's Lullaby", that was such a disappointment. For those who haven't been following the news around the movie, the original song was composed by Yiruma and was called "River flows in you", but then Robert Pattinson, the guy that plays Edward in the movie, decided that he'd write the song himself. Yiruma's version was sooooo much better, youtube it if you haven't heard it before, you will fall in love.
Overall Rating: 2.5/5
